The landscape is steeped in history: explore prehistoric caves, 12th century fortresses and much, much more. Lush, green meadows, stone built houses, grand châteaus and sprawling vineyards cover this area, and many have likened it to a sunnier, larger version of the Cotswolds in the UK. This picturesque part of southern France is the epitome of laid-back rural life. We would not hesitate to recommend this property. Thank you to the James family for their hospitality. The owner always responded promptly to emails when booking and prior to the holiday sent very detailed and helpful information about the property and surrounding area. However the house at Pontarnaud was so nice we were often happy to stay put! We also visited even more beautiful St Jean de Cole and the castle at Bordeilles, which was a great hit with our grandchildren. Brantome is a beautiful little town with many places to eat, some overlooking the river and family canoeing seemed very popular. The surrounding area is beautiful and I think maybe a little quieter in High Summer than the Southern Dordogne. The pool is pristine and was enjoyed by the whole family every day. The house is very spacious, stylish and clean and the gardens and patio area are a delight: secluded and very well looked after. The generous 'food parcel' gift of bread, cheese, wine, eggs etc was much appreciated. From the moment of opening the front door we felt welcomed and comfortable. We all had a wonderful holiday in this lovely house at Pontarnaud. “Welcoming, relaxing and comfortable house in beautiful surroundings” We were a group of eight, comprising two grandparents, our daughter and son in law and their two children, ages six and four.
